May offers some much-needed reprieve from the activating and assertive energy that was April’s seven planet meeting in the sign of Aries. If you are burned out, worked up, and ready to check out, Taurus season is here to remind us we need only to lean into our inherent capacity for comfort and rest to replenish our stores of vital energy. This sets us up to enter the Summer with a bit more bandwidth, even if it is only a momentary relief. (2026 is crazy y’all, there’s no sugar coating it!). We start the month of May with Venus and the Sun well into the sign of Taurus, soon to be followed by Mercury and later Mars. The timeline for the key astrological alignments this month is as follows:
May 1st: Full Moon in Scorpio
We are set up to receive some messages from our deeper intuitive selves, setting a stage of fierce alignment with our authenticity, with just a dash of indulgent hedonism.
May 2nd: Mercury enters Taurus
Bring on the grounded communication! We are moving into this transit ready to speak from a centered and practical place, and embracing ideas which stabilize us and encourage us to slow our racing minds down.
May 4th: Mars in Aries squares Jupiter in Cancer
Mars is still offering us an energizing opportunity to seek what we desire and attain it, and its square to Jupiter (still in its exaltation in the sign of Cancer) gives us a platform to direct this pursuing energy into nourishing growth opportunities. We are ready to receive the gifts, so long as we maintain the momentum to chase after them.
May 14th-May 17th: Taurus Mercury Cazimi, Mercury enters Gemini, Mercury-Uranus Conjunction
Mercury meets up with the Sun in the sign of Taurus on May 14th to extend some higher caliber clarification to the practice of thinking and speaking slowly, offering skills in speech and communication which seek to illuminate rather than to distract or confuse. This happens just before Mercury enters Gemini on May 17th and meets up with Uranus, so expect this clarification to really rattle the cage of our present circumstances and open us up to a whole new set of ideas and practices. Radical realizations abound!
May 16th: New Moon in Taurus
The New Moon in Taurus is nestled just between the Mercury Cazimi in Taurus and its conjunction with Uranus in Gemini. This gives this lunation a unique capacity to plant the seeds of these radical shifts, allowing for an opportunity to start new routines which really do have stasis to change things for us in the long run.
May 18th: Venus enters Gemini
Just in time for a debaucherous June, Venus enters Gemini to incline us to get excited about all the different avenues for love, beauty, and social harmony. Get ready for some fun and zany relations and creations!
May 20th-May 22nd: Sun enters Gemini, Gemini Uranus Cazimi
Prepare to ramp up your energetic sphere as the Sun enters Gemini on May 20th, immediately falling into aspect with Uranus, which it more precisely conjuncts on May 22nd. This is the Summer of like, just realizing stuff, (Kylie memes aside), and some of those things will certainly be the least of what you are expecting. So buckle up for some radical shifts in how we express ourselves and what we know to be our Truth.
Our collective card is the Hierophant. The Hierophant comes at a time when we are being asked to actualize the examination of spiritual authority that is our birthright. We are placed at the precipice of benediction, and we must inquire: “who determines where we kneel, on whom divine gifts are bestowed, and is this in service to the spiritual life of all humanity?” In a reading, this card can signify the inclination to orthodoxy and inherited allegiance to certain beliefs. It describes the responsibility to follow what was handed down to us, and a deep-seated urge to remain obedient to that following. As it corresponds to the sign of Taurus, the Hierophant also suggests a certain stasis in remaining within one’s own belief system, since it lends to a sense of safety and a comfort in structure. But this card also offers a potent opportunity to understand the dogma from which we are operating, and radically challenge our own conditioning using tender self-study about what actually guides our spiritual principles. It is only half of the work to reject a system which was handed to us when we discover it is not totally aligned to our values. We must continue this work by creating another system — one which exalts our highest spiritual hope for this world.
