The Cloud of Unknowing is a pillar of medieval mystic writing, written as a ‘how to’ guide for a first-hand encounter with God.
The approach is surprisingly ecumenical, with the author recommending that all that the candidate thinks he or she knows about God to be discarded before any attempt can made at the described exercise.
The text used here is the 1922 translation by John M. Watkins (the founder of London’s oldest esoteric bookshop, Watkins Books). This version is highly faithful to the Middle English original, while offering updated spellings, and elucidating unfamiliar archaisms to make the text intelligible to the modern reader.
E.g.:
“HERE BYGYNNITH A BOOK OF CONTEMPLACYON, THE WHICHE IS CLEPYD THE CLOWDE OF UNKNOWYNG, IN THE WHICHE A SOULE IS ONYD WITH GOD”
has been updated to:
“Here beginneth a book of contemplation, the which is called the CLOUD OF UNKNOWING, in the which a soul is oned with GOD.”

Shipping
Ritualcravt ships two-three times per week. Please understand we are a two-person shipping operation and do our best to get your goods to you as quickly as possible. Orders generally ship the next shipping day after your order is placed, however, sometimes we receive dozens of orders in one day and we split orders between the next two shipping days. During our bi-annual sales events, shipping times can be 2-3 weeks after orders are placed. Preorders are shipped as soon as we receive the products to us. Returns
Ritualcravt does not generally take returns or exchanges. If your item arrives broken, or you received the wrong item, please email us at shop@ritualcravt.com.
