Folklore:

Solanaceae (pronounced so-la-nay-cee or so-la-nay-cee-ay) is the name of the nightshade plant family which contains belladonna, datura, henbane, mandrake and other poisonous and psychoactive species. Solanaceae is simply the plural of solanum, the genus name. Both names are ancient latin and mean “belonging to the sun”. Despite the dark reputations of poisonous nightshade plants, when it comes down to it they are plants of the sun which explains their boundless healing capabilities and magical properties. The Sun has the power to blast away any evil and darkness. Like fire, the sun is purifying, cleansing, exorcising, and the source of life and warmth. In the oldest recorded origin myths these poisonous nightshade plants were created with magic from the poisonous but intoxicating body fluids of the gods by the titans Prometheus and Hekate. In the stories it is they who first teach the poison path to humans, including the witches Circe and Medea. Prometheus is the trickster who stole fire from the heavens and gifted it to humans and is more than a bit luciferian in nature.

The combination of four nightshade herbs in this ointment is found in some historical flying ointment recipes, most notably the witch’s salve described by Giambattista della Porta in his work Magic Naturalis in 1558. Witches’ ointments were and still are used for astral travel, dream work, lucid dreaming, shapeshifting, divination, trance work, and ecstatic rituals. No need to use a broom though, that is just a bit of fakelore and propaganda that won’t die. Just apply to the skin away from mucous membranes before your magical work. The Solanaceae Ointment can also be used to commune with deities, nature spirits, and the ancestors. The plants are also protective and used for uncrossing and curse removal.
